Empowering Education

My passion for education and learning knows no bounds. I believe in helping every student, regardless of age, to discover the joy of learning and master the art of learning effectively.

I love helping students and non-scientists understand the sometimes complex, often opaque, and initially overwhelming world of how cells work, the confusing maze of metabolism, and the wonderful universe of DNA, RNA, and Proteins.

Meet Dr S!

Hello, I’m Dr S also known as Geoffrey Sargent. I have a PhD in Biochemistry & Biophysics and have worked in research in academia and primarily biotech startup companies for my entire career. My research interests have been focused on the genetics and biochemistry of DNA damage and repair but what I have spent most of my research efforts on are developing and improving gene editing technologies to treat genetic diseases.

I have over 15 years of teaching college-level courses in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, and Gene Editing Technologies to undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students, as well as consulting with business and science professionals.

Basically I’m a lab rat…I love the creativity that goes along with answering scientific questions, crafting experiments, and inventing new technologies. And I live for those exhilarating moments when I discover something unique and new.

When I’m not reading, writing, teaching, or doing science you might find me playing dobro in a bluegrass jam, on long bike rides, or even possibly hanging off a cliff or windsurfing.
